Culture

A city of different tongues and cultures.

In Barcelona , there are two official languages spoken: Catalan , generally spoken in all of Catalonia , and Castillian Spanish . The two languages coexist in a bilingual situation that is also in the same predicament as those in many other parts of the world. The Catalan language is understood, written, read and spoken by most of the residents in Barcelona . The acts of legislation that recognize Catalan and Castilian as the joint official languages of Catalunya are the Constitution and the Statute of Autonomy of Catalonia .

Culture

However, Barcelona is more than just a single city. More importantly, it is a collection of multi-faceted and diverse cities and cultures, which makes it open to the harmonious coexistence and dialogue even amongst the variety of different languages. The importance of tourism and the encounter of different cultures paves the way for other languages with the likes of such as English , French , Italian , Portuguese , German and other various regional forms of Arabic and a number of Asian languages, is expected to be regularly heard in the streets and in most of the city's shops, bars, restaurants and other establishments, thus enriching the socio-cultural fabric of this great Catalunya city.
