| The taxis in Barcelona are black and yellow. If the green light on the roof is on, they are not occupied and you can stop them in the street. You should only pay the price that is displayed on the meter plus extra luggage costs. If you are unsure about the price that you have to pay, you should ask the driver for a receipt. The Barcelona taxi drivers have the obligation to give you one.

In Barcelona it is common to tip the driver. For short rides just round the next number, for longer rides the tip might be a bit more. But you never have to give more than a couple of euro.
You wouldn t have to use taxis during the day because the public transport system is excellent. But when you want to return home during the night, the Barcelona taxi come in very handy. When you are near Las Ramblas or the Gothic quarter , the best place to take a cab is the Place de Catalunya . Around 2-3 o clock in the morning you will find long queues, but the taxis keep coming and within 20 minutes you ll have a ride home.
In the metro and buses you will always have to be aware of pickpockets. When you need to go somewhere late in the evening, the Barcelona taxi is a safe and clean transport.
