Barcelona is famous to the tourists because of its unique and impressive scenery. But the region is not only popular due to its impressive monuments, landscapes or beaches but also because of its gastronomy. Barcelona has a strong reputation when it comes to culinary. One of the famous and prominent chefs in Barcelona chef Ferrán Adrià has contributed a lot of influence in Barcelona’s food industry, such like nueva cocina española and traditional staples. Basically, the traditional top three ingredients in Barcelona’s cuisine are tomato, olive oil and garlic. The cuisine in Barcelona is known as innate creativity which can not be seen in the other region of Spain.
Since Barcelona is just miles away from the Mediterranean, most of their foods being served are seafood. Additionally, the neighboring countries of Valencia and France influence the Barcelona’s cuisine. So if you visit Barcelona you will experience a satisfying food trip.

- Fideua—this food can be comparable to paella. It is cooked in a large, circular, flat pan. It is mixed with poultry, meat, vegetables and shellfish. But instead of rice the main ingredient is fideus—characterized as a skinny, short noodles.
- Pa amb tomàquet—this is a Catalan staple favorite breakfast. What you need to have is a thick slice of rustic bread, then go get some garlic rub it get some fresh tomato as well and put it on top. And then sprinkle olives oil to the boot, and finally add salt on it then you already have the Pa amb tomàquet.
- Calcotada—this is a local kind of baby onions called Calcots. The Calcots are burned over the open flame, however the inside part of it is tender. The Calcots then were braised with the special Catalan sauce of tomatoes, garlic olive oil and almonds called Romesco.
- Sarsuela—this is a variety show of the Catalan food—a seafood combination such like shrimp, different types of white fish, mussels, clams, lobster, squid, shrimps and crayfish. The mentioned above are then mixed with lemon, tomato, olive oil, sherry, white wine, paprika and more spices in one casserole. After it finally cooked, it is then ready to serve.
- Crema Catalana—the most omnipresent Catalan desert. This is a very delicious form of desert, cold custard with crunchy caramelized sugar coating.
